The guide shows the installation on a standard Ender 3 Pro (with no mods), although the process will be similar for any machines listed in our compatibility list.
To complete this upgrade, you will need:
- Your Creality printer
- Pliers
- Corresponding Hex Key (2.0mm for the Ender 3 Pro)
- 6mm wrench or socket (for loosening/tightening the nozzle)
- Flush cutters
1. Raise the carriage up and move it to the centre of the bed to give yourself room to work in.
2. Carefully remove the HotEnd cover if you have one on your machine, leaving the HotEnd exposed. You can rest it on the x-axis.
The fans are still attached to the cover, so be careful not to pull on the wires.
3. Preheat the HotEnd to around 230°C.
4. Manually feed some filament in by a few mm to prime the nozzle
5. Remove the filament from the HotEnd
6. Remove any strings of filament coming from the Nozzle
Use a brush or tool as the nozzle is hot
7. Loosen the Nozzle using a 6mm wrench or socket. Grip the HeaterBlock with a second wrench to prevent it from twisting.
If there is a sock on your HotEnd, you will need to remove this first. Grip the heater block from the front and back as shown in the illustration to avoid damaging your heater and thermistor.
8. Unscrew the Nozzle the rest of the way using a pair of pliers.
The Nozzle should still be hot at this point so do not touch the nozzle with your fingers
9. Now select cooldown in the onscreen menu and wait for the HotEnd to reach below 50°C
10. Once cool, screw the new nozzle into position using your fingers but do not tighten it fully
11. Heat the HotEnd back to 230°C.
12. Tighten the Nozzle the rest of the way. Ideally, you are looking for around 2.5Nm of Torque.
Remember to grip the HeaterBlock at the same time to prevent it from twisting.
13. Then carefully attach the cover back onto the carriage.
Once again, the HotEnd will still be hot so be careful not to touch it
14. If you aren't planning to print straight away, you should now hit cooldown in the printer menu.
Be aware that your z-offset may have changed slightly so it may need altering.
Tired of time-consuming Nozzle changes?
You should take a look at our new Revo Ecosystem. Change Nozzles cold and within seconds. There's even a Creality-specific HotEnd which is a drop-in replacement for the MK8 HotEnd on many Creality machines.
