What is ObXidian made from?
ObXidian is made up of many materials and processes. Starting at the Nozzle tip, we’ve got a specialized hardened steel, with the rest of the nozzle portion being made up of Copper. Then we have a steel tube, and finally, a copper threaded portion. For the literal icing on the cake, the assembly is then coated with E3DLC™.
When will my ObXidian ship?
At this time, we are unable to confirm exact Revo ObXidian shipping dates. We are working closely with our suppliers to ensure that we get the product to you as soon as possible.
How much will shipping cost for an ObXidian?
Shipping costs excluding duties and taxes are calculated live at checkout, for an accurate cost we recommend you add the product to your basket, fill out your address details and you’ll then be displayed your different shipping options.
If I order other products at the same time, will they ship before ObXidian?
No, we do not facilitate part shipments, your order will only ship once every item can be fulfilled so please do not combine your order if you’re unable to wait.
What HotEnds are ObXidian compatible with?
At launch, we have ObXidian for Revo in 0.4 and 0.6 nozzle diameters. Meaning any of our Revo range are compatible with ObXidian. V6 and Volcano variants will follow later.
Can I use my brass nozzle socks with ObXidian?
Absolutely! The socks that ship with ObXidian are the same as with brass and they can be used interchangeably.
Will there be 2.85mm ObXidian nozzles?
Simple answer, not as standard. If you’re a printer manufacturer using 3mm, please reach out!
Will there be other nozzle sizes available?
Absolutely, 0.25mm and 0.8mm will be available towards the end of the year, we couldn’t wait any longer to get these in your hands, so we figured launching with the two most popular sizes was the best decision.
Can I get ObXidian for my V6?
Yes, V6 ObXidian is not available to pre-order at the time of writing, but it is on the way. It will follow production of Revo ObXidian.
What is a DLC coating?
Diamond Like Carbon (DLC) coating harnesses the strength of diamond bonds, the hardest material on Earth, in a lattice with graphite, to form a strong, wear-resistant coating. The DLC coating also offers many other intrinsic benefits; such as low friction, chemical resistance and thermal stability. DLC coatings are not all the same, depending on composition and manufacturing process. The E3DLC™ coating has been custom designed at the atomic level to offer an unparalleled combination of wear resistance with anti-sticking properties.
Is it possible to wear out an ObXidian Nozzle?
Our testing has shown that under normal printing conditions, even when printing abrasive materials, ObXidian Nozzles can last almost indefinitely. That’s not to say they are indestructible though; we have successfully worn ObXidian Nozzles in some extreme testing.
UV-reactive/ “glow in the dark” filaments include an additive called Strontium Aluminate. Strontium Aluminate is very hard. So hard, in fact, that when printed at very high movement speeds, the deposited layers begin to work like sandpaper. We’ve found these conditions to be capable of removing the E3DLC coating and therefore can have a permanent impact on the wear resistance of the nozzle.
We’re not saying you need to totally avoid using glow-in-the-dark. We’ve successfully run multiple kilograms of glow-in-the-dark filament through an ObXidian Nozzle without seeing any impact to the nozzle's performance. Turns out it’s a lot more complicated than wear being proportional to speed, but we’ve been using the Prusa MK3S+ with the 0.2 Quality settings with good success for most model geometries. If in doubt, print slow.
Why did it take you so long to manufacture ObXidian?
There were many reasons for the delays, you can read all about them here.
How do I clean my ObXidian?
Great news for fans of the brass brush. You are free to scrub ObXidian to your heart's content. Cold pulls are also on the cards. Check out this guide for more info on our recommended cleaning techniques.
Was Zodiac involved in the creation of ObXidian?
No. ObXidian had already hit design lock long before E3D acquired Zodiac.
What is the maximum temperature I can use my ObXidian Nozzle at?
300°C
Why is there a brown slip of paper packaged in with my ObXidian Nozzle?
The brown slip of paper is there to offer corrosion protection for metal parts during shipping and storage. It is VCI paper which stands for ‘vapourised corrosion inhibitor’. This paper is chemically coated and produces gas progressively over time. These VCI molecules form a thin, invisible layer on the Nozzle which prevents oxygen from touching it. Thus preventing corrosion.
It’s potentially a little overkill, but it’s the details that matter! Your ObXidian should arrive in the same pristine condition that it was in when it left E3D.
Do I need to change any slicer settings when switching from Brass?
You shouldn’t need to make any changes to get printing again.
Are ObXidian Nozzles the same length as Brass Revo Nozzles?
ObXidian Nozzles have an identical form factor to brass Nozzles.
Do I get a warranty on my ObXidian Nozzle?
You can find information regarding warranty for our products here.
Where's the pot of gold?
Despite all the rainbows, there is no pot of gold included with your ObXidian.
